ROUND IRELAND AWHEEL
Sometime thespian, Ian once undertook to portray the character of Sir Lucius O'Trigger in a production of Sheriden's The Rivals. Keen to discover the land that had given birth to this theatrical braggart, and despite the warnings of his friends that there is good reason why Ireland has become known as the Emerald Isle - namely rain, and lots of it - Ian set off with an optimistic glass half-full, outlook, trusting that the contents wouldn't be poured over him.
This unlikely book details his ride from his home in, all too dry, Suffolk, through, occasionally damp, Wales and then onwards to receive a soaking or two as he pedalled his way round the coast of Ireland, before returnng to his long-suffering wife, Mary Jane.
Throughout the narrative he is plagued by the phantom of one Major Murphy LLD. Fact or fiction, the duel persists until Ian returned to the comfort and security of home life.
The book runs to 96 pages 32 pictures (9 in colour) plus details of dstances covered. A spreadsheet of Ian's route is available on request with a book order.
